Shrub Rejuvenation Pruning

Hard rejuvenation pruning that brings overgrown, leggy shrubs back to dense, healthy growth.

What This Service Involves

When a shrub has become a bare-legged tangle with all its life at the tips, a light trim will not fix it – it needs renewal from the base. We cut old, unproductive stems back hard, either all at once for shrubs that tolerate it or a third at a time over a few seasons for those that do not. This forces vigorous new growth from low down and rebuilds a full, well-branched plant. Vigorous Northwest growers such as red-twig dogwood, spirea, and old laurels respond beautifully, trading years of neglect for fresh, dense foliage.

Benefits

Restores dense growth from the base up; Removes old, unproductive, leggy wood; Staged or hard renewal matched to the species; Revives neglected shrubs instead of replacing them; Sparks vigorous, well-branched regrowth

Our Process

1) Identify whether the shrub tolerates hard or staged renewal; 2) Remove the oldest stems back to the base; 3) Thin and shape the remaining framework; 4) Mulch, feed if needed, and clear all cuttings

What Affects the Cost

Size and stem density of the shrub; Species tolerance for hard cuts; Number of staged visits required; Volume of woody debris; Follow-up feeding and mulch

Best Time of Year

Best done in late winter to early spring before bud break so PNW shrubs push strong new growth through the season.
