What This Service Involves

Slate is a fine-grained metamorphic rock that splits into flat layers, giving a naturally cleft, textured face in rich charcoals, greens, and rust-tinged multicolors. Those dark, moody tones look striking against the greens and grays of a Puget Sound landscape, especially on covered or partially sheltered patios. Because some slate can flake in repeated freeze-thaw, we select dense, low-absorption gauged slate and seal it to lock out our persistent winter moisture. Set over a compacted, well-draining base, it delivers a sophisticated, contemporary surface with excellent underfoot grip.

Our Process

1) Select dense slate and confirm drainage grade; 2) Excavate and compact a crushed-rock base; 3) Screed a bedding layer for the slate; 4) Set slate pavers with even joints and grip texture up; 5) Seal the surface and fill joints
