Mulch Replacement

Full removal and reinstall of organic mulch to rebuild healthy, moisture-balanced beds.

What This Service Involves

Over a few Northwest seasons, arborist mulch and wood chips fully decompose into the soil, leaving beds shallow, weed-prone, and starved of protection. We excavate the remaining broken-down material, refresh the soil surface, and install new organic mulch that feeds your plantings as it slowly breaks down. This deeper reset is ideal for perennial and native beds where soil health matters as much as appearance. We choose a mulch blend suited to rhododendrons, ferns, and acid-loving PNW natives.

Benefits

Rebuilds soil structure as the fresh organic layer decomposes; Dramatically reduces weed pressure with a clean, deep layer; Buffers roots against both summer drought and winter saturation; Supports the acidic, humus-rich soil Northwest natives prefer

Our Process

1) Excavate and haul the fully decomposed old mulch; 2) Loosen and lightly amend the exposed soil surface; 3) Define bed edges and protect plant crowns and trunks; 4) Install fresh organic mulch at the correct depth, kept clear of stems

What Affects the Cost

Bed area and how deeply the old layer has broken down; Mulch type, from arborist chip to composted bark fines; Volume of haul-away and any soil amendment added; Density of existing plantings to work around; Delivery access and manual spreading distance

Best Time of Year

Late spring is prime, once soil has warmed and drained, though a fall installation also shields roots ahead of the first hard rains.
