Arborist Wood Chip Installation

We install fresh arborist wood chips that build soil naturally and make an economical, sustainable mulch for large areas.

What This Service Involves

Arborist wood chips are the varied mix of chipped branches, leaves, and wood produced when trees are pruned or removed, and they are one of the most soil-friendly mulches available. As this diverse material breaks down it feeds beneficial fungi and earthworms, steadily improving soil structure and fertility in a way uniform bark cannot. It is an economical and sustainable choice for pathways, natural areas, and large planting beds around Pacific Northwest properties. The mixed texture holds moisture well and moderates soil temperature through both summer dry spells and winter cold. We apply it a bit thicker than decorative mulch since it settles and decomposes faster, and we keep it pulled back from trunks to protect bark.

Benefits

Builds healthy soil as it decomposes; Economical and sustainable for large areas; Excellent moisture retention through summer dry spells; Supports beneficial fungi and soil life; Great for natural areas, paths, and understory beds

Our Process

1) Determine coverage needs and confirm chips suit the planting area; 2) Clear weeds and coarse debris from the surface; 3) Spread wood chips three-to-four inches deep across the area; 4) Pull chips back from trunks and stems and level the finish

What Affects the Cost

Volume of chips and area covered; Freshness and mix of the arborist material; Weeding and site preparation required; Spreading labor across large or sloped areas; Delivery and access for bulk material

Best Time of Year

Arborist chips can go down any season, but a fall application in the Northwest insulates roots and lets the chips mellow over winter.
