Lawn Dethatching

Dethatching that removes the built-up layer of dead grass smothering your lawn.

What This Service Involves

Thatch is a layer of dead stems and roots that builds between the soil and green grass. A thin layer is healthy, but too much blocks water and nutrients, harbors pests and disease, and encourages the moss so common in shaded Northwest lawns. Power raking or dethatching lifts out that excess buildup so the lawn can breathe, absorb moisture, and grow densely again.

Benefits

Removes the barrier that blocks water and nutrients; Reduces moss, pests, and disease pressure; Lets new growth and overseeding thrive; Improves the effectiveness of fertilization; Revives tired, spongy-feeling lawns

Our Process

1) Assess thatch depth to confirm dethatching is needed; 2) Power rake or dethatch across the lawn; 3) Collect and remove the lifted thatch; 4) Overseed and fertilize thinned areas; 5) Advise on watering to recover

What Affects the Cost

Lawn size; Thatch severity; Debris removal volume; Whether paired with overseeding

Best Time of Year

Best in early fall or spring during active growth; often paired with aeration and overseeding.
