Evergreen Pruning

Species-aware evergreen pruning that maintains shape and health without leaving dead, bare patches.

What This Service Involves

Evergreens are the backbone of a Puget Sound garden, but they punish careless cuts – most conifers will not regrow from bare, brown wood, so timing and cut placement are everything. We prune within the living green of pines, firs, spruces, and cedars, pinching candles or shortening back to healthy lateral growth to control size while keeping a natural silhouette. Broadleaf evergreens like rhododendron and photinia get a different, growth-aware approach. The goal is always a fuller, healthier plant that never shows a shearing scar.

Benefits

Cuts kept within living green to avoid bare spots; Natural silhouette preserved, not sheared; Size and density controlled thoughtfully; Approach tailored to conifers vs. broadleaf evergreens; Healthier, fuller year-round structure

Our Process

1) Identify the evergreen species and its regrowth limits; 2) Remove dead, damaged, and crossing wood; 3) Prune to healthy laterals or pinch new candles; 4) Refine the form and clear all debris

What Affects the Cost

Number, size, and type of evergreens; Conifer vs. broadleaf pruning needs; Height and ladder or lift access; Overgrowth and correction work; Debris cleanup

Best Time of Year

Conifer candles are pinched in late spring, while most structural evergreen pruning is done in late winter across the Sound.
